Alumni BBQ

posted Oct 12, 2010, 8:12 AM by Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity

Mark your calendars for the annual fall, members-only, "Alumni Meet-and-Greet" BBQ. Come on down on Friday, October 15th, to 996 Laurel Avenue in Saint Paul (less than three miles from campus) for all the food, beverages, and fun that you could possibly handle on a Friday night! The event starts at 6:00 pm and will go from there.

We will have lawn games, food, beverages, and fun for all at this event. In addition, you get the chance to meet some of our organization's alumni in an informal setting. It isn't very often that you get to play bags or ladder ball with partners and associates working for firms right here in the Twin Cities so this is an opportunity that you don't want to miss!

Don't worry about trying to find parking, either: right across the street from this event is a large parking lot for a city park! The venue is located just east of Lexington on Laurel Avenue (a block south of Selby Avenue) and is very close to Grand Avenue (for any post-party planning you may wish to conduct). Remember to dress appropriately for the weather and that, as always, DTP encourages its members to be responsible.

Hope to see you next Friday, October 15th!

DTP Powder Puff Game!!!!

posted Oct 4, 2010, 7:58 AM by Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity

Please join DTP in hosting the 4th Annual Powder Puff Game this Sunday, Oct. 10th, 2010. This fundraising, funhaving, friendmaking event has been a tradition at HUSL for many years, and is a great way to meet fellow lawstudents, compete in a *friendly* yet competetive game of flag football, and raise money for the Angela M. McCaffrey Public Law Scholarship. Professor McCaffrey was a former professor at Hamline Law School for 25 years who passed away last January after a long battle with cancer. All proceeds from ticket sales and the silent auction will be donated to the scholarship created in her honor. Separate donations will also be accepted to help fund the sober bus running to and from the DTP Halloween party (Fri. 10/29).

Tickets are $5 pre-sale and at the door. The first game (1Ls vs. 3Ls) starts at 10:30. This will be followed by a halftime show and finally a game between the winner of the first game and last years reigning champions at noon. DTP invites all to attend the after party at Halftime Rec. [1013 Front Ave St Paul, MN 55103-1256; (651) 488-8245]

DTP is hosting this event so we would like you to participate or come support.  Please bring other law school students, family and friends. The more fans = more fun and more money raised for the Angela M. McCaffrey Public Law Scholarship! That and we can successfully say Powder Puff is still alive and thriving at Hamline Law School.

Please feel free to contact DTP Sports and Leisure Committee member Sarah Hooper with questions:

This year's DTP Initiation will be taking place next Tuesday, October 5th.   Initiation is mandatory for all new members.  All DTP members are invited to attend, and we would especially love to see them come out for the reception afterwards!
Initiation is being held in Judge Magnuson's courtroom at the Federal Courthouse in downtown St. Paul:
United States District Court
734 Federal Building
316 N. Robert Street
St. Paul MN, 55101
There are a number of parking ramps within walking distance, the closest being:
Kellogg Square Parking Ramp
111 Kellogg Blvd. East
St. Paul, MN 55101
Please be careful to allow yourself enough time to navigate construction and find parking!
All new initiates and DTP members who wish to attend must arrive no later than 6:15 PM.  The ceremony will begin in Judge Magnuson's courtroom at 6:30 PM.
Anyone in attendance at the courthouse should be in professional business attire (AKA a business suit!). Please remember security is tight at the Federal Courthouse! Be smart about what you attempt to carry in and please bring an ID with you.
We will be honorarily initiating Chris Messerly, a Hamline graduate who led the fight for the victims of the 35W bridge collapse.  We will also be awarding him with the initial "Chris Messerly Community Service Award" which he will be returning each year to help our Senate give out to people who do outstanding philanthropic work.
The reception following initiation will be held at McGoverns.
225 7th Street W
St. Paul MN, 55102
There is a parking lot behind McGoverns, as well as a paid ramp (also for Allina Hospital) directly behind that parking lot.
The reception will include light appetizers and time to socialize with the new DTP members!
We're excited to see you all there!
